Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane struck two each as Manchester City swept aside title rivals Liverpool 5-0.
Brazilian international scored either side of half time after Sergio Aguero had opened the scoring. Sane came off the bench to complete an emphatic victory by Pep Guardiola‘s side with a double of his own.
But the game was turned on its head when Sadio Mane was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Ederson before half time.
Jurgen Klopp looked incensed on the sidelines – but replays showed Mane was reckless in challenging the City goalkeeper, who left the pitch in a neck brace.
Even if Liverpool were reduced to 10 men, the manner of City’s victory was ruthless. Aguero opened the scoring after 24 minutes to make it six in his last six Premier League games against Liverpool at the Etihad.
But the visitors remained a threat with the pace of Mane and Mo Salah.
Mane looked set to equalise racing through on goal with the score at 1-0 – but Ederson was quick off his line, forcing the striker to lunge and catch him in the face with a high boot.
